FILLED: SMART ENERGY SYSTEMS EXPERT - NUON - VILVOORDE

I. ORGANISATION

Nuon Belgium N.V. was founded in 2002 at the occasion of the liberalisation of the energy markets. The company supplies gas and power to its retail and business customers and helps them to reduce their energy use. With more than 340.000 customers and 550.000 connection points, Nuon Belgium is the most important challenger on the Belgian energy supply market. The company is located in Vilvoorde and employs about 150 people.

The Sourcing & Pricing department is responsible for the definition and execution of the pricing strategy within Nuon Belgium. The control of the settlement and invoices of all energy price components is equally part of the departments’ responsibilities. Given the importance of an accurate sourcing and the cost assurance for an energy supplier, dedication and quality work of our colleagues is a key success factor.

The S&P team is also a key component in the success of our ability to source correctly, to switch and invoice our customers on a timely and accurate basis, by ensuring excellent sales portfolio data management and maintaining relations with external parties. In the liberalized Belgian energy market, different market participants exchange millions of electronic messages covering customer switching,  meter readings, consumption and allocated demand.

The Sourcing & Pricing department works in close collaboration with the Retail, Business, Regulatory, Operations and Finance departments as well as with the trading organization (i.e. our balance responsible parties and shippers).

Given the central position of the department in Nuon Belgium’s market data and process flows, the Sourcing and Pricing department will strengthen its team with a Smart Energy Systems Expert. The Smart Energy Systems cover the concepts of smart grid and smart meter, as well as the smart home and smart user in the utilities markets.

II. FUNCTION 

Scope

The Smart Energy Systems Expert reports to the Portfolio Manager.

Responsibilities

 -       Market development: the Smart Energy Systems Expert will represent and defend Nuon best interests in the Belgian market development of the smart meters and smart grids. The following tasks are part of his job responsibilities:

• Represent Nuon Belgium and look its interests in the UMIX taskforces and core teams, FEBEG, regulators meetings and private initiatives like Smart Grid Flanders
• Participate in the elaboration of the new market models and the MIG 6 (go live foreseen in 2015)
• Communicate the market changes to other departments and Nuon Belgium management on a regular basis
• Assess the impact of the market changes on the internal process and organization and identify related potential benefits and threats
• Project management for the MIG 6 implementation, with active participation during analysis, design and testing phases
• Offer the early life support for the MIG 6 and develop own tools to bridge the gap in IT development when required

-          Smart home: the Smart Energy System Expert will develop and implement smart home solutions for Nuon’s customers, in close collaboration with the Marketing team

• Be aware of the latest smart home solutions on the market
• Build robust business cases for new smart home products and services, in sound understanding of all the impacts along the entire Nuon value chain. After that: manage the implementation project, gather functional specifications, write functional design and execute the user acceptance tests
• Offer the early life support for these products and services and develop own tools to bridge the gap in IT development when required

• Advice on the further development of Nuon’s vision about Smart Energy Systems.

 III. PROFILE

 Educational background and experience

• The person has an university degree (e.g. economy, science, engineering) or equivalent by experience, supported by an IT background/interest
• Experience within the Belgian energy markets, the related processes and data flows is a plus
• Good understanding of the sector value chain and the interaction between the different market players is a plus
• Knowledge of the Smart Energy Systems is a plus

Languages and skills

• Mother tongue Dutch or French, fluent in English
• Results oriented and self-motivated with the ability to take up tasks/responsibilities with a relatively low degree of supervision
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to liaise with people at all levels internally and externally
• Ability to defend Nuon’s interests in a convincing manner
• Quick learner and innovative thinker
• Ability to understand, evaluate and compare technical solutions
• Experience in project management, writing requirements and functional testing
• Strong analytical skills
• Ability to analyze huge amounts of data is a plus
• Good knowledge Microsoft Office  (PowerPoint, Excel (VBA), Access)
• Good knowledge SQL and database models (Oracle, SQL Server) is a plus
